Chats stay regular by default. Turn on a timer and it applies to newly sent messages. You can delete your own message for both of you, and either participant can delete the entire chat.

The countdown starts when a message is sent and is visible to both participants. The timer applies only to new messages. You can manually delete your own message for both participants, and either participant can delete the entire chat.
